Augie Nieto is my hero. I have known him for many years, long before ALS defined him. Augie and his wife Lynne have taken the challenge of a lifetime and made it into something hopeful and positive for the future. Whenever life throws me a few punches, I try to put it into perspective by remembering their challenge and how they have gracefully transcended it.

Augie’s Quest has grown exponentially over the years. Augie took his extensive and successful business acumen and translated it into a charitable organization for an under researched disease. Not much had been done since Lou Gehrig made the disease front page news over 70 years ago. Augies’s Quest joined forces with the Muscular Dystrophy Association a few years ago and the results have been without precedent for ALS research.

Since 2006, Augie’s Quest has raised over $60,000,000 for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Recently, ALS joined with Biogen Idec and UCB Pharmacy to jointly investigate a potential treatment for ALS.

I strongly support Augie’s Quest not only because of the fine research it has funded but also because all the people involved in this organization are caring, trustworthy and selfless. Part of the proceeds from my art sales goes directly to Augie’s Quest. When you donate to the cause, you can be certain that your donation is going to a worthy, reliable cause that can have positive effects on many lives.
